The Year 9 Long Course Art students are up and running with some charcoal observational work . The first part of the year is all about experiencing a range of media and techniques . Observation too . They're rather good ! !
The Year 10's have started the year by collaborating on some kinetic art . . .
The Year 11's are starting the year by doing some large experimental mark making based ever so loosely on the work of artist Jim Dine .
Here's some work by the Year 9 Long Course students. Many of them have not really done too much painting . We'd say that there's rather a lot of potential here !
The Year 13 painters have started the year with a canvas that they have done specifically for their Sola show later in the year . Blimey , they're good !
The Year 9 's have had fun the way that 'Mad Scientists ' do by tinkering with nature . No animals were hurt in the making of these images !
Our fantastic student teacher Mr . Kennedy has taken this to a whole new level with the Year 9 Long Course which involves clay , found objects , manufactured objects , re - imagined objects and flour . Lots of flour ! The students have now created a moon colony for their creatures , a moon surface , established dwellings for them and food for them . They have also devised systems of government for their creations which is very revealing for two particular reasons . Firstly , students have amazingly creative ideas and , secondly , students should never , ever , under any circumstance be allowed to govern ! Check out the pictures below . . .
The Year 11 's are now deep in N.C.E.A land and their current Achievement Standard involves painting and printmaking components. Here is some of their delicious work . . .
Mr . Kennedy got the Year 10 's to consider a portrait of themselves from the perspective of a creature . This involved lots of investigation over in the Horticultural area , note taking , photo taking , sketching and screaming a bit ! They made little investigation booklets and then produced a final piece in a format of their choosing . And look at what they came up with . . .
We asked our two short stay Korean students , Jinah and Jitae and our new Japanese student, Ren to produce a comic strip of their life and after that , to do an intaglio print self portrait . . .
The Year 10 's have been looking at Cubism as a means to seeing and interpreting the world a little differently ( more images to follow ) . . .
Nicole ( Russek) in Year 10 has been keeping herself amused during rainy lunchtimes - of which there have been rather a lot of late . She is a Beatles fan and has found a rather grand way of expressing her love of the Fab4. See how many Beatles songs you can name whilst contemplating just how mad Nicole might actually be !
Some of our Year 9 students have been experimenting with mono printing . The idea was to incorporate their good side with their alter - ego . As a first go , they are mightily impressive . What do you think ?
The Year 9 and Year 10 's are both just coming to the end of a project where they have studied the basics of COMPOSITION through exploring images by a range of diverse artists . Cool stuff ! And now we're all going on a two week break. Because we deserve it ! !
