Let's talk !
Mr Whibley's Year 11 and Year 9 Maths classes, Miss Ferguson's Art class, Paul and Gary (power-tools-r-us), Pacey, Tremont and Steven, the lovely people from the Heritage Centre (Kit Kat Building) who gave us the posts, the good people of the local community who donated the paint, as did 'Street Smart' and the 'Seagull Centre', Hayden for helping to mix copious amounts of cement, Gary for beautification of the site and, of course, our Arts Co-Ordinator Vic.
It takes a lot of people to create a talking circle ! What a great place for students to gather together and exchange ideas (anything from global warming to what's in your sandwiches). Lets talk . . .
WELL DONE EVERYBODY .
Coming up next, near our 'Word Wall' on the ground floor of 'C' Block , is the 'Thames High Hot 100'.
We asked all the staff and students at school to write down the thing that they are most passionate about and why. In 4 words ! From all these we have chosen the 100 that best represents the diversity that exists in our school community ( anything from two minute noodles to the wonders of the universe).
This is where the fun begins . . .
Anybody , at any time , can change the placement of any of the 100 contributions. For example, if you like Number 72 , feel free to put it at Number 1 ( especially if Number 72 was your contribution ) not forgetting to put Number 1 down to Number 72 . It's constantly changing and totally interactive. Have fun with it !
A big 'Thank You' to all the 100's of students and staff who submitted and the following students who helped get it all painted.
Hannah Cullen, Jisha Shaji-Mathai, Kristine Yap, Marama Sands-Gage, Jessica Raynel, Ginell Sim, Reilly Sharpe, Kiwa Yates, Lacretia Schmidt, Jade ( I believe in Aliens ) Mobberley, Jennifer Hedges, Alan Terada, Tiana Lambert and of course Victoria who does endlessly great things and also to our wonderful 'go to' man, Eric who cut out all the strips of wood in the first place. ( I hope we haven't forgotten anybody ! )
YOU'RE ALL STARS , YOU ARE !

Miss Ferguson's Year 10 Art class have been working feverishly on a mural for the Seagull Centre ( great place - check it out ) down in town . They're nearly finished so here's a 'sneak preview'. It's big, bold and beautiful . Well done, you lot. Great stuff !
It's Term 3 and it's time for a new project . Our Careers Adviser , Debbie Driver went to the Auckland Art Gallery and significantly and perhaps remarkably ( unless Debbie has secretly been keeping her passion for Art under a bushell for years ) came away inspired by the creative signage around the gallery !
To cut a long story short , and as you can see from the photos below, we've got the Year 9 short course art class to start work on our own 'take' on signs .
These signs will be decorative , informative and all over the school in the near future . You'll never be lost again !

Despite a lack of forewarning via this site , tonight saw a great turnout for the Year 9 's and Year 10 's Art exhibition . Some great work on show from our future art stars , some great scones provided by our all rounder and 'go - to' Arts Co-ordinator , Vic ( a huge 'Thank You' to the Bin Inn for their support - great Scone Mix guys . Go shop there everybody ) and most importantly to Miss Ferguson for being such a creative and inspiring teacher . Thanks to everybody who came . It was great , wasn't it !.

What a busy week ! Hot on the heels of our Junior Art evening , the visiting students from Misaki (that's in Japan) have been in school and have produced some delightful art work . Those of us who struggle to connect through language need not despair because a picture paints a thousand words !
And here's some of their delightful art work . . .
Year 9 & 10 Long Course Art native Koru birds
These works are inspired by NZ artist and designer Shane Hansen. His work can be found locally ( Moko Gallery Hot Water Beach ) and all throughout New Zealand galleries.
The students had fun learning the names of native birds in both Maori and English which they then included into their designs.

GO AND SEE IT ! The Year 13 Photography and Art Exhibition is on at Sola Cafe . Opening night was Thursday 2nd October and it's on for a couple of weeks. The students are 'stoked' to get the chance to exhibit their work to you , the public . They would be even more stoked if you bought something ! Once again, a BIG Thames High THANK YOU to Sola. which, incidentally, stills does the best coffee in town. Check out the pictures below . . .
Plenty of our Art students have been burning the midnight oil to get their external boards completed . Check out the Year 11 Art boards page . Displaying the work in the library certainly generated a bit of a buzz . . .
A Huge 'Thames High Five' to Jasmine Atwell. Jasmine is going to Elam next year because , a./ She's great at Art and b./ Because Jasmine's idea of happiness is spending all day long creating Art. You'll have a great time Jasmine. Let us know how you get on . . .
