When you set the Year 10's the task of producing a piece of work about how the world began , how it will end, and all the important bits inbetween , this is what you get . . . .
Dr Voice's roopu are making art work inspired by NZ artist Selwyn Muru's Aotea Gate in Aotea Square in Auckland and Totem Poles to make art about where they are from , what the future might look like for them and their hopes and fears . . . (You can't argue with statistics ! Spiders ARE scary ! )
. . . and for those students who finished in time and had the energy for something extra . . . a collage based on the same theme . Check these out !
. . . And the Seniors are starting to find their sea legs !
Our Year 10 Elective class are making kites to help us celebrate Matariki this year. 2022 is the first year that we will have a national holiday to mark Matariki and we intend to do it in style . Watch the skies as Matariki draws near . . . .
Xavier's in Year 11 now. And things are getting strange . Welcome to his wonderfully strange world !
Back to the Seniors and they are getting towards the end of their internal assessments . The work is based on the idea of IDENTITY and what that means to them . . .
9NEU have been collaging ( some on the computer and some with good old fashioned scissors and glue ! ) The work is based on their whakapapa as well as their future aspirations and hopes and fears . It gets complicated . . .
This Term, our Matariki Elective class have been making Wall Reliefs to celebrate Matariki. First they researched the stars of Matariki to find out what each one represents and then they designed a symbolic representation of their chosen star. Then we used a lot of tin foil !
The Year 9 rotation class this term is 9FRG (Ms Ferguson's roopu) and very lovely they are too . Like the other roopu , they are producing prints based on their whakapapa (roots , if you will) . For a first time printing , they've done really well . . . .
And here's something that deserves a special mention . . . Lucy Wong has created this stunning zentangle . Go Lucy ! ! !
It's getting near the end of the year for the senior students and they are close to completing their external boards . Here's a few things to whet the appetite
Tupaea, our wonderful Year 10 student, decided he would like to do a board ( just like the Year 11's do ) . So he did ! And after that , he decided to start working on a much larger scale . Kia Kaha Tupaea . . .
Whaea Ra's Year 9 roopu are the last rotation for the year . Same project as the others and aren't they grand ! . . .
To finish the year , here's a couple of paintings by William (who's in Year 10). We love the richness of paint application William and the way you have explored colour in a deeply personal way . Great work !
