Dr Voce's roopu are the first Year 9's to rotate through the Art room this year. They have looked at Totems and designed their own based on their history (whakapapa) , their future , hopes and fears . What a lovely group they are and they are ' well into it ' . Their finished totems will make their way to the gallery page soon . . .
The Year 10 Art group were given the task of producing a painting based on the beginning and end of our planet and all the important bits inbetween (people / events / inventions) which should give them enough inspiration and scope to get creative . We looked carefully at what it means when we are considering good composition . We decided that 'Contrasts' were important (scale, colour, tone, mark making , line etc) . Look out for the finished pieces on the gallery page . . .
Our senior artists are exhibiting their work at the Thames Arts Centre in Tararu at the beginning of August . This is the second annual exhibition there and is part of the Thames Arts community aiming to promote the work of young people . Which is rather splendid on their part . Congratulations to our prizewinners and to all those who took part . And a huge 'thank you' to everyone who helped promote and helped to put up the show . It was a wonderful experience for our students to see their work presented so professionally !
Year 8 Open Evening was a great evening . We asked the Year 8's who came along to paint a portrait of their family channelling their inner 5 year olds (first day at little school / first day at big school / getting in touch with their inner child sort of thing). If you came along , see if you can spot your portrait . . .
The Year 10 Matariki elective class is engaged in a BIG project that is going to fill up a BIG space somewhere in school . Watch this space (ha ha) . . .
And here it is . . .
Welcome to our Year 8's from the local schools . We hope you enjoyed your taster day . Here are some photos of what we did . Can you see yourself ?
For Senior Prize Giving , Baromey painted this beautiful painting for our guest speaker ("thank You' wonderful ex-student Caitlin Ruddock ). Mrs Sawyer ( who organises these things ) was so impressed with the painting that she wanted to keep it for herself !
