One of our international students Asahi , has his own exhibition in the Grahamstown Gallery . This is a fantastic thing to do and is probably very liberating for Asahi to be working on a BIG scale compared to the confines of NCEA . The exhibition is vibrant and exciting and a must see ! Well Done Asahi .
Students working ! A bit of sanity in a mad mad world . . .
Lillian and Helena recently completed their wonderful mural (took a long time - paint doesn't like drying in winter ! ) The mural is all about Matariki . The images , for those of you who know all about Matariki , will make perfect sense to you . If you don't know about what Matariki is a celebration of you can enjoy the painting and try and work it out . Well done the two of you ( and your helpers ) .
Hot on the heels of Lillian and Helena's mural , we have another one (although , this is the work of the Year 13's from 2019 and some lower school students too from 2020). To celebrate 'All things Steampunk' in Thames , they've created a large mural that will (fairly soon) live on the croquet club fence down in Victoria Park . Keep your eyes peeled !
. . . And here comes another Mural . Jeff Whitfield at the Thames Community Centre asked our students to produce a mural for the interior wall down at the Centre. Here they are at the 'coal face' ! Well done to all of you . Good job Sian Olivia Keelyn Sebastian Ruby Haidee and Baromey
Term 3 . Because we are hoping hundreds will come , the Music Department is putting on an evening of performances and the Art Department is providing the backdrops . And as soon as we go to Level 1 with the Covid thing , the orchestra will be tuning up ! Meanwhile , Astari , Harmony and Summer are , to some extent , 'Lost in Music' . . .
November 10th . Art Show . Come and see the Year 10 School of Arts students / the Year 11 , 12 and 13 Art externals / Year 12 and 13 Photography externals / Year 12 and 13 Visual Art Design externals . PLUS TEA AND BISCUITS ! ! ! ! ! Surely an evening not to be missed . Pictures to follow . . .
At long last , here it is ! The Thames High School Collaborative ( lots and lots of students were involved - some of them aren't even students anymore ) STEAMPUNK MURAL . It's located down at Victoria Park and you can't miss it because it's big and colourful . In the photos , Ruby ( Molloy -Year 10 ) gives a sense of the grand scale of it and she was also one of the artists involved . The whole thing was done in conjunction with the Thames Public Art Trust and our huge thanks goes out to Paul Silvester who encouraged and supported us throughout the process .
Thank you to everybody who came to our Thames High Art exhibition . We saw great things . We heard students performing great music . We celebrated the diversity of what it is that inspires us and we had tea and biscuits . Enjoy the photos . . .
A huge Thames High School Art Department 'Thank You' to everybody who came to the exhibition of student work last night . It was a bit overwhelming how many of you came and it meant a huge deal to the students . Here's a few pictures of the evening . Keep your eyes open for the page about the Senior Art Boards because all their work , and that of the Year 10 SoCA students will be posted in the next few days .
Should you venture down to the Thames Community Centre ( and why wouldn't you ) you'll get the chance to see our SoCA (Year 10 School of Creative Arts ) students mural in situ . Isn't it great ! Well done Team and thank you Jeff Whitfield for getting it all together and Mr Slaney for getting it onto the wall !
