We'll be getting underway with some new projects soon but in the meantime we are VERY excited about seeing these two murals completed.
This Year, our Year 13 students are going STEAMPUNK ! In November during our annual Thames Steampunk festival , they will be putting on an exhibition in the back room at Lotus Realm (lovely place , lovely people) .
The students are starting to do the work now as they tend to focus increasingly on coursework as the year progresses. The first to produce work is Chaya . Check these pieces out !

We're in cahoots with the Seagull Centre again ! The good people there have asked us to convert some of their flotsam and jetsam into sculptural sorts of things that will celebrate their 'Founding Fathers' (if you will) . We had to say "YES". Here's some photos of the work in progress and the lovely students who are getting the job done . . .
We went to the Tauranga Art Gallery for the day and it was fab . Saw some great art by a young Hamilton based artist (called Ahsin Ahsin) , ate some sushi , saw the sea . Got home in time for the school bus . TOP !
To Celebrate New Zealand Music Week , Mr DuPreez and the music department put on a great evening's entertainment so here are lots of pictures for those who weren't able to be there . The back drop action paintings were done by the Year 9 High Interest group (mostly) and Ashlea Hooper from Year 13 . They looked great . Incidentally, the performances were filmed and can be found on the THS Celebrations Facebook page . So check them out . . . .
The Year 9 High Interest Project group have been making work to go outside the Art Room . They are a really highly motivated group and their work is rather grand . Check out the final work in the Gallery . Well done Sebastian , Raiden , Sharny , Moana , Precious , Ngaamo , Moses . . .
We took some over lovely students to the Big City to spend the day at YouBee . This is a college where you do exciting things in the world of animation and image manipulation and other cool stuff (lovely people there too !) . It was a great day out , we got to try to do things with some computer programmes and here's some pictures . . .
We're good to go on the Thames High Celebration Saturday . Here's a taster of what you will find in Sola . Actually, it's already up in Sola so get on down there, order some yummy vegetarian food and enjoy the work . . .
What a great day it was too. Check out the photos below and do have a look on the Thames High School Facebook page for (probably much better images ! ) .
Here's a rather wonderful thing ! Claudia Long - Claudia is one of our delightful and extremely talented ex-Art students - designed this image to go on a set of panel doors in our new Whare . Well , it took a while , but as they say , "Great things are worth waiting for". Sorry it took us so long but the design is supreme (especially when the sliding doors open and overlap). Claudia, you can be mightily proud of yourself and we are mightily proud of you !
As you will be aware , Thames is THE STEAMPUNK CAPITAL OF THE NORTH ISLAND ( maybe even the universe if Guinness Books of World records count for anything ! ) . So get on down to the Back Room at Lotus Realm and see the Thames High Students contribution . You could even buy some of it !
